Introduction

Austin Chinese Choir is a highly distinguished mixed-voice choir in Austin. Currently we have over 30 members who practice every Friday night at Hope Presbyterian Church.

Austin Chinese Choir started back in 1991 at Austin Chinese School. It then became the all ladies Xi-Yuan Choir. The turning point came in 1998 when Mrs. Chung-Hwa Chen took up the conductor¡¦s baton. The four-part, mixed-voice choir resumed, and quality of performance has been improving each year. Today Austin Chinese Choir is widely regarded as a professional-level amateur choral group.  With a reputable name not only in Austin, our choir is well-known in Dallas, Houston, St. Antonio, Boston, California and even in Taiwan.

Austin Chinese Choir not only hosts annual recitals, but also interacts and performs with other choirs, and actively participates in many community events. On New years¡¦ eve, the choir gave a successful performance in 2009 Austin First Night programs. Again in January, the choir traveled to Houston to participate in Light and Salt Charity Concert. Besides formal performances, casual family-style gatherings are common. The choir also holds activities such as aerobic exercise, birthday celebration, field trips, etc.

It is worth mentioning that there are several pairs of husband and wife, mother and son, as well as mother and daughter in Austin Chinese Choir. The choir is like a big, team-oriented, music family. The atmosphere is warm, with jokes aplenty, and no ego associated with talent. Austin Chinese Choir welcomes wholeheartedly anyone who loves to sing to be part of the family, to make friends through songs, to share the joy of vocal harmony, and to work on choral music together toward an even better tomorrow.
